If I make minestrone soup with all raw vegetables such as:
kale, carrots ,celery, etc. If I cook them in a soup; is there still a health benefit? Do we need to eat everything raw?
admin
24. Aug, 2013
Yes there are still health benefits even if you cook them. The idea here is not to overly cooked the vegetables such that they lose all their vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

This information is amazing! It just changes the whole idea of what I believed was okay to eat versus what I should know about that belief…that was incorrect. I guess there will be some changes. Thank you for the detailed info.

It would be nice to be able to print a list so that you can have it available when you grocery shop!! Most folks will not pull out their iPod or cell phone to look to see if what they’re buying is highly acidic or not.

This is great information but not in a useable form. I need to have a list in my kitchen where I’m preparing food. I can’t run to my office to look through the web. Could you please figure out a way to have us print the list? Thanks

Is all caffeine acidic? If so, why is caffeinated green tea in the alkali group?
Where do curry, turmeric, and black pepper fall on the scale?
Who cooks lettuce? What is the difference between boiled and cooked lettuce? When does anyone do either of those things to lettuce?
Why is goats milk alkali and cows milk acidic?
Where do cottage cheese and feta chees fall on the scale?
Is there anything you can eat quickly like calcium to change your acidity?

I use tallow/pork lard for my fat/oil. Where would that lie on the chart? Thank you so much for this!
admin
04. Sep, 2013
it is best to use coconut oil rather than tallow/pork lard for your oil. Tallow/pork lard usually lies in the acidic zone of the pH scale.

What I am concerned with is the foods that are acidic and then when one eats the food it becomes alkaline. To me this is important because it is balance that counts as I see it.

Hi, I’m wondering why raw milk is classified as mildly acidic, and goat milk is classified as alkaline. Does raw milk assume cow milk? Does that imply that cow’s milk is more acidic than goat milk? I’m just trying to understand.
Thank you! Awesome chart!
admin
17. Sep, 2013
That’s a great question. Yes, your assumption is right on raw milk = cow milk. Yes cow milk is more acidic than goat milk because of the differences in mineral composition in both animals.

“2) This alkaline food chart is only accurate for certain state of the foods. For example, cooked lettuce has a different pH value compared to a boiled lettuce.”
Hi, I’m sorry if this is already posted somewhere, and I missed it/haven’t found it yet. I’m wondering if the state for all foods listed here is raw? How do I know what state this chart refers to?
Is there a way to learn the acidity of foods for each state?
Thanks so much!

Well, this list is very disappointing; most of the foods I like are in the Highly acidic categories. Meat glorious meat! I can get on board with eating more fruits and veggies; I’ve been working on that already, but I can NOT become a vegetarian.

From what I’ve been told, you should strive to eat 80/20 or 70/30 of alkaline vs.acidic foods. I’ve done this in the past and it really did make me feel a lot better. More energy and I felt “clean” on the inside. I am getting back on this bandwagon as soon as I can. You don’t have to be a full fledged vegetarian to alkalize. Good luck!

It’s a same thing… Acid reflux and gas are related.. It’s a different reaction of your body, everybody has different reaction to acidic foods. I had both- heartburn and gases/bloat stomach… Ever since I start the alkaline diet I have zero gas and zero heartburn !!!

Eunice- you can help with acid reflux by eating a pink lady apple first thing in the morning and before bed….also you can try 1/2 oz of raw apple cider vinegar before you eat a meal that is high in protein- which will always mean it is acidic. Hope this helps…
and Ann – if you eat more raw and cooked vegetables and less fruits while your body adjusts to a more alkaline diet that will be helpful to you.

While I experimented with this wellness activity many years ago, I never had access to such a comprehensive easy to understand listing of subject foods. I am well into my years of life but I still plan to make an effort in this area.
I thank you very much for the extensive work you and your staff have done to compile these listings. Impressive, indeed!

If one eats an acidic food (meat) with an alkaline veggie or two, does it lessen the amt of acidity consumed? Does the good cancel out the bad or does the meal become neutral?
admin
27. Feb, 2014
This definitely helps to balance the acidity of the entire meal. But the proportion is not right. You need much more alkaline foods for the acidic meat you consume.

This list is SO helpful – as a cancer survivor, I’ve doing some research into alkalinity/acidity and cancer growth and it is very intriguing. Could you condense this list into 1-2 pages – perhaps without the pictures? The I could post it on the inside of my kitchen cabinets for easy reference.

I had a biopsy for “bladder cancer.” No cancer (thank God), but found out the irritable bladder, urinary tract infections were due to my body being very high in acid. I was shocked to find out it all had to do with the food and drink that I was putting in my body! THANK YOU for creating this acid vs alkaline chart! It is so helpful (even though I have a lot more to learn). I feel so much better, have much more energy, and the irritable bladder is under control.

I have a Chanson water ionizer that outputs filtered tap water from highly acid (pH 4,5,6 for cleaning) to highly alkaline (pH 8,9,10 for drinking, brewing green tea and cooking). This is an excellent supplement to my predominately alkaline food diet.

Hi Charles
I have been drinking ionized alkaline water in addition to eating a mostly alkaline diet. But after reading the FAQ section within this article, I noted it is dangerous for your body’s ph level to reach more than 7.8 So do you know if following an alkaline diet and drinking alkaline water can result in your body reaching an excessive ph level? Thanks
